Ladarian Rhule, Aspiring Teacher.

Hello, I am creating this website to blog my entire journey as I develop as a aspiring teacher. In this website you see what I do on a weekly basis including:

my thoughts on certain topics, self evaluation on demo lessons I do (with video evidence), Updates on the skills that I am trying to develop with milestones set to show improvement.

Week 1

Tasks that have contributed to my development:

I have done the following:

Started a basic draft of a lesson plan based off the knowledge I have before getting a better insight from my teacher.

Broke down what qualities a good teacher has and how they use those skills throughout their lesson.

Did an extended analysis on what qualities a bad teacher has and a basic draft on how this can affect the students that they are teaching.

Gotten an insight on some of the problems teachers may face when carrying out a lesson and the preparation that is needed for the classes, they teach such as resources like: paper, flash cards, presentations, video examples etc...

Learnt about what support teachers must deal with, for example: students with learning difficulties or disabilities like ADHD, Autism, Tourette's etc.

Continuing this we categorised them in terms of how serious they are and how difficult they are to handle/control by labelling them LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH.

What works:

Teamwork - Was able to work and communicate with the group, leading topics, coming up with ideas and solutions

Self evaluation- Realising and writing down the qualities that i have now and making certain criteria's that i have to reach to solve them

Enthusiasm- Motivating myself and the group to progress with learning the required skills to be a teacher and continuing the constant with the group by leading with a positive and clear example of what to do based on the tasks set

.

Organisation- Sorting out my notes so that i have a clear understanding of the points made during the session and setting categories for what parts of

What doesn't work:

Adaptability - Getting used to the idea of dealing with students of different abilities and needs is something out of my comfort zone, not having a confirmed and straightforward way of teaching is a concern for me

Confidence - Teaching in front of larger audiences, not enough trust in my knowledge to teach it to other people

Technological skills - I understand that have a lack of knowledge on different forms of resources and how to practically use them...

Discipline - Not having any major ideas on how to control a classroom when there is disruptive behaviour but also on the personal side, I have come to the realisation that I need to be disciplined with myself to

What I can do to continue development:

To continue development i need to be able to plan and follow through with some demo lessons to acquire that skill of adapting to students who have different abilities and needs. The more practice i get in the actual teaching field the easier it will be when it comes to the real thing as will have the experience of teaching students efficiently and effectively. What i can also do is research on some videos that can give me tips on what steps i need to take to work on adaptability and then follow through with a plan of how i will do it in future lessons.

Continuing with what i previously said, it follows the same concept of actually being in the act and get the sense of trial and error. Being able to build off of these experience will also allow to me to develop my next skill which is discipline.

Based off of the videos that i use to develop these skills will also allow me to develop my skills as i will want to find resources that can benefit me in the long run. This example with myself will make me want to also find resources that will help me teach other students. The more resources that i am able to find the easier it be to form a solid plan of what creates an educational and engaging lesson.

This video is about evaluating the skill of students in a classroom and how to adapt to challenges that you may face before the main lesson even starts. It talked about features to notice in the first few minutes of the lesson as it will effect the overall learning process. The features were;

Sleep - Students that have not had enough sleep will tend to not pay attention in class due to them being tired. This as a result will effect learning in the classroom.

Week 2

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • I have completed a proper lesson plan with an example lesson to use as reference for future planning of lessons.

  • I have done a better research on the high, medium and low level students and how lessons vary depending on this. Not only does this system relate to the learner with special needs but also to the rest of the class as it relates to how intelligence level in the class and how quickly they can progress.

  • Learning different way to start and close a lesson

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • I need to do some research based off the HML system and start creating a draft of what I am going to do to when it comes to creating a lesson

  • Need to start finding resources that help me with the technological side of things so that planning and organising a lesson plan is easier.

Q3 – Is there anything you need to present in next week's meeting?

  • My thoughts and ideas of how we are going to present the lesson and the tasks that we will involve in it.

what works:

Time management - During this week i have been able to develop my time management skills by allowing myself to focus on the parts that needed the most work and prioritised on working on how to read a classroom from the start of the lesson and basing how you proceed with your lesson from there.

Creativity - Using the feedback that i got last week from my teacher, i took the time to think about how i would like a lesson to go and then used it as a foundation to start a new lesson plan. I felt as if i were the student then i would like to do something that was a bit more engaging than just sitting down.

Adaptability- After hearing about the different things that i would have to consider when teaching a classroom i decided to work on how i can deal with them problems the best way possible and getting a more informed insight on just a few problems that my teachers have come across i started thinking about strategies to do so.

.

Organisation- Being apart of the teaching group i have started setting out what parts of the lesson needed tweaking so i have begun allowing myself to dedicate certain times for specific things throughout the lesson and keeping a note of what things are neccesary for that part of lesson.

What doesn't work:

Technical skills: throughout the 2 weeks i have been growing as a teacher i have not been able to find the right resources to start making my lesson better. What i mean by this is that the first few links i see when researching, i copy most of what i see which makes me lack creativity and encourages an ineffective lesson as I am following a structure that may or may not be useful for my class specifically.

What I can do to continue development:

To continue development i need to be able to take some time to develop my researching skills and pick points out of what to find to create my own unique lesson because then the lessons that i plan can be more targeted towards my audience which is my students an therefore improving productivity on both teacher and student sides.

As an addition to this i believe that on the side this will improve my creativity, as it will allow me to try and interpret what i have found and translate it in a way that is more fun for students. Using the ideas that have come up with and using the different resources for example power point or word etc, i can use the tools on there to also improve my presentation skills.

for this weeks video i have chosen this:ff

This video is about how to improve on creativity as a teacher i need to prioritise being more open with how the lesson flows. What i mean by this is the fact that allowing there to be room for the students to actually use their own creativity to make the lesson more beneficial for them is necessary, as then this means as a teacher i should not try to have such a strict structure towards a lesson and how to learn it but to allow the students to teach themselves by giving them the general learning objectives and providing the resources to do so for example using flashcards or playing a certain game which encourages them to want to learn and research more.

This is a website that helps teachers with different forms of actions they can patake to allow the students themselves to use their own creativity to teach themselves the lesson without any restrictions.

Examples of this is by rewarding them when they achieve a certain milestone along the lesson which encourages them to do more work during the lesson

Week 3

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Making a note of the skills I need to work on throughout the entire project

  • Researched on how I can progress on the set skills and then made a plan of how I am going to contribute to them each week so that they are all on the same level

  • Started using some of my ideas on lesson plans and also watched some videos on what makes a successful lesson

  • Had a 1 to 1 with teacher to discuss the difficulties you may face while trying to plan a lesson.

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • Based off of what I have learnt this week, I need to start creating a new lesson plan that is straight forward to understand with room for improvement in case I want to change anything

  • Gathering websites, apps, documents that give me a better insight on teaching students or resources that allow me to present lessons in a fun way.

Q3 – Is there anything you need to present in next week's meeting?

  • A lesson plan with the resources I will need or will use for the lesson I am presenting

what works:

Creativity - Going previously off of what i tried working on over the weekend, i have been able to use one of the examples that was on the website i found which was using online flashcards. Also going off of what the video from last week was talking about i have been able to allow more freedom when teaching a lesson. What i mean by this is that i have allowed more student QnAs allowing them to bring up any confusion they are getting throughout the lesson.

Technical skills- I have gotten more research done on the resources that i can use throughout the progress of my lessons for example using Kahoot is a fun and unique way of teaching the classroom. This can eventually lead to a straight forward multiple choice QnA and allows me as the teacher to target the weaker students so that they can come up to speed with the rest of the class.

Self evaluation- I have started getting into a routine of reviewing the strengths and weaknesses that i have had throughout the week and making one skill the overall goal improve before the next week happens

What doesn't work:

Adaptability - After the discussion with my tutor i have gotten to realise that there are alot more things to consider when teaching alesson and sometimes it can get overwhelming to control due to whatever situation. Coming from a personal point of view i believe that this is something that i need to work on

What I can do to continue development:

To continue development on adaptability i need to put myself through different scenarios that challenge me to work and think on the spot as to how i will deal with it. I feel as if through some demo practice lessons with demo student will allow me to progress on adaptability as a skill.

.

This video is about emotional intellegence in the classroom and how it can effect the adaptability of the teacher. Based off of this shows you different processes that teachers go through when dealing with an overwhelming and loud classroom. Later on in the video it starts talking about different things you may be feeling in those situations and then emphases the benefits of regular practice.

This is a article that  i happened to come across which talks about the definition of adaptability and why it is important for a teacher to develop a skill like this in their early years of practice. It then went into detail as to the research that was undertaken to provide the best possible ways to deal with a classroom.

Week 4

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Created multiple lessons plans on different music topics ranging from "Behind the scenes of the music industry" and also "Breaking down the run" which were specified from teaching a group of Level 1 and Level 2 music student's.

  • Did a demo lesson with a level 2 music performance student for 30 minutes

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • Have a lesson plan for a group of level 1 and 2 students incorporating the feedback from the teacher and student, and also some self-evaluation based of the videos I recorded.

  • Updating my website with what I have done this week

what works:

Critical thinking - During the lessons that i went over with the level 1 and 2 students, there were a few issues in terms of the content that i was trying to teach. I had to think on spot of different ways to project the info onto those students by breaking down the topic even further than the what i had planned. The result ended up how i wanted it to turn out just with some minor setbacks.

Self evaluation- After i done these lessons with my students, i requested that they leave some feedback after the lesson was finished so that i could find out what i needed to work on. After reading some of my reviews i was able to find 0out that the general structure of the lesson went well, but in terms of the activities that i had planned needed a bit of work because it wasn't as engaging as i would have thought it would be. Based off of this i know what to focus on primarily for the next lesson that i am going to work on.

.

Organisation- For the structure of the lessons that i did i had a organised layout of what things i wanted to get done at certain parts of the lesson. One of them was me wanting to do warm ups before getting into some vocal training as one it prepares me as the teacher to lead by example but also prepares the student for when they want to practice what i am teaching them. Being able to follow through with the lesson structure that i had planned allowed my lessons to run smoothly which allowed me to use the time i had set to the fullest.

What doesn't work:

Confidence - Throughout the lesson there were times where i was unsure of the direction the lesson was going, based off this i was unable to sound as confident with what i was saying but more of me following the flow of the lesson. I feel as if there is no guide in terms of how to be able to deal with every dilemma that comes to the teachers way but there is a lot ways to prepare myself with making sure that i am confident in the content that i am teaching and how i display myself throughout the lesson.

What I can do to continue development:

To continue development i need to prioritise working on the lessons that i teach and practicing them by myself ensure that based off what i am teaching, that i know what i am saying and ensuring that i confident in that factor. The steps i can take is by requesting my peers to sit down and ask me questions along the way of my lesson ensuring that i prepared for potential questions that i may be hearing in a future lesson.

What i can also do is ask my teacher on how they were able to practice their confidence during their own teaching process. Another thing that i can do that is not teacher related is by engaging myself in some more public performances when i with my band to get the hang of speaking in front of a wider audience.

This is a website that allows teachers/upcoming teachers to get strategies to use in their classroom for gradual confidence growth as an individual. This is a skill that will not come instantly, however with trial and error, it can become the benefactor to a successful lesson.

Week 5

What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Created a lesson on "improvisation" for the level 1 and 2 students which included vocal warm ups and 1 to 1 learning exercises

  • Worked on improving my organisation, planning, teamwork, critical thinking and enthusiasm skills by working on the lesson prep and a band rehearsal to use some of the leadership tips as a practice

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • I need to review and give to the level 2 and level 3 bands by going into their rehearsal sessions during my free time

  • Self-evaluate my reviews and how I carried myself and then log it on my website for future references

Q3 – Is there anything you need to present in next week's meeting?

  • A basic brief of the things that I need to get done for next week and how i am going to do it.

  •

  • what works:

  • Patience -  During another attempt of a lesson with some of the level 1 students, i allowed myself to develop on my patience when going over a lesson with them. Taking the necessary time to go over thing that were misunderstood and allowed them to take the time they needed to fully grasp the topic at hand

  •

  • Multitasking- During this specific lesson during a good duration of the topic i was teaching, i was using the piano along side with me to act a rhythm to follow whilst going over some warm up techniques. Being able to implement some of these techniques in a musicians singing career can drastically change the way they perform. Being able to play the piano whilst also demonstrating and communicating with the student allowed me to full work on my multitasking skill and also helped me develop a bit of confidence in my ability to teach a person.

  • Communication- Throughout todays lesson i learnt that effective communication can help me adapt the way i teach my lesson to a certain extent. Being able to come to a compromise with the student allowed me to teach things a bit quicker than if i was going off just what i wanted to do. During the lesson there were times where the student was not  as confident with their ability to do some of the warm ups but with effective communication i was able to adapt and change it to something was still challenging to a degree but easier for them to catch onto.

  •

  • What doesn't work:

  • Time management - One thing that i did not keep in consideration was the factor of just how much time i was giving the student that i was teaching. As much as you want to give the student as much time as they need to understand a topic it is also credible to save some of the information for a future lesson. Noticing this will allow me to plan to teach the next part of a certain topic more effectively but also allows me to not overload the student with too much information to the point where they forget what was previously spoken about.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to stick to a strict schedule and make sure that when it comes to a preparation of a lesson that i time myself on certain parts and force myself not to go overboard when practising outside of class hours. Overall this will help me to control not only ow long it takes for me teach a certain lesson but also how much time i should give the student to try understand what i am talking about.

  •

  • Video links with explanation:

  •

  • This video is about how to work on time management based off of how much time you have and it pretty much prioritises making a to do list ahead of time to allow yourself the most time to focus on the impart things. In a classroom setting this would relate to talking about the learning objectives. Now another thing that i got from this video was how instead of trying to get all this information into the students head, you should just focus on one to three things and perfect teaching them really well so that you dont overwork yourself in the long run

  •

  • Website links with explanation:

  •

  • This is a website that helps with ideas of what you can do to develop your time management. Now in my personal opinion i feel as if time management and organisation links hand in hand so if i have better organisation skills then that should also help with time management. Overall the general overviews of the website was talking about planning beforehand and using the extra time to focus on the parts of the classroom keeping a general control of where you want to take the teaching.

Week 6

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Constructed a lesson plan for the level 1 musicians

  • Taught a lesson with a student who has special needs (autism)

  • Had a meeting with peers based on music industry and how we are going to teach those future lessons to the GCSE students

  • Worked on my presentation skills and how I carried myself throughout the lesson whilst remembering the previous feedback from previous lessons

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • Log my thought process whilst I was teaching the student with special needs and what went well and what didn’t

  • Begin brainstorming ideas on different ways I can make a lesson more interactive so that the students can have fun and benefit from.

Q3 – Is there anything you need to present in next week's meeting?

  • I need to present ideas of what I have researched over the weekend on Music industry topics and a rough draft of how we may carry out some of the lesson plans.

  • what works:

  • Leadership - During this weeks lesson i want to focus on working on my leadership skills because i do not think i did any development towards it. During this weeks lesson i was dealing with a student that had some special needs and due to that factor there were somethings that i was not really prepared for such as this specific persons outburst of speaking over me whilst i am teaching and also a short attention span. Now having this in consideration i worked on directing them in the right path when things tended to go off topic and communicated in away where they were able to keep themselves under control.

  •

  • Critical thinking- As a continuation of what i spoke about before, i was able to keep the student on track with the work with implementing what i practiced when it comes to the other skills. In this case i used a reward system to allow them to want to learn more and that was by me suggest that they could leave the lesson 5 minutes early if they were able to get a certain part of the lesson completed without any flaws or distractions along the way.

  • Organisation- In terms of working on what i will teaching the gcse students  i have begun looking over the unit that they are studying and have started jotting down some ideas in terms of what i want to do to act as a support teacher during these sessions.

  • What doesn't work:

  •  Commitment- I believe that regardless of the progress that i have been making, i need some form of motivation to keep me up to speed with everything otherwise i tend to become less focused on things that need to be done. Getting into a habit of reminding myself why i am doing all this work is something that i need to work on to stay committed when it comes to me developing my skills.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to work on getting a reminder to always allow me to remember what i am working towards. In a certain way this blog is a reminder in itself to why i am working towards this role and the benefits it has to me. I would think that having a image on my phone or a specific video that watch to give me the motivation to keep committed to work i am doing.

  •

  • This video is just a motivational video that found to keep myself positive about the milestones that i have achieved and to really boost my morale when it comes to teaching students and developing these skills as a whole.

  • This is a website that is giving a step to step tutorial to how to stay committed with the goals that i am trying to achieve. A general overview of this by creating successful habits that allow me to get into a routine of bettering myself on a day to day basis. It then went on to talk about allowing yourself to celebrate the small milestones along the way to act as a temporary serotonin to keep you motivated, after all of this then the website started talking about the things you may have felt beforehand when it comes to being committed and even added in a few personal links to themselves as the creator of that website

Week 7

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Researched different websites/apps that can be useful to make a fun and interactive way of teaching.

  • Had a meeting on making a rough draft of what we are going to teach and how we are working together to connect all of our lessons together

  • Reviewed a performance with the first year L3 students and gave feedback on their performance and what they should work on

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • Creating a template of the different categories I want to add the rough draft of "The Stage" lesson for the GCSE students.

  • A review of more websites or tools that can be useful to the progress of my lesson.

  • Continue looking through past GCSE papers on the music industry so that I can base my part of the lesson on it.

  • what works:

  • Self evaluation - During this week i needed to take some to look at what i have achieved so far and how i can take things to next level. Based off of this i realised that have started getting a general foundation with all the skills that i wanted to work on. Now it was about trying push these skills to the "next level" when it came to teaching the GCSE students.

  •

  • Communication- Based off this, there was a meeting that was set between my teacher and my peers in order to come to a agreement with how we wanted to follow through with working together. During this meeting i personally believe that it allowed me to work on speaking up on how i feel about certain topics and where i can grow on my strengths and build on my weaknesses, with the communication side of things i was able to come to a mutual agreement with everyone as to what i would be prioritising my researching and practice towards which working on the job roles and how they work together when it comes to a performance.

  • Creativity- During this discussion we aware able to get a lot of ideas of what we wanted to add into our part of the lesson and how was going to go with the process. I believe that during this time i was able to let my creative side come out a lot more using the feedback that i have gotten from the students i have taught and also personal thoughts to make decision of how me and peers were going to work together. Later down along the line we able to agree on a certain strategy which is fun but also very educational for the student to grasp onto.

  • What doesn't work:

  • Technological skills- As much as it has been good to come up with these ideas, there are times where the most effective approach is to have the support of technology along side with it. Based off of the previous weeks i have been to find more things that can help me with my teaching when it comes to planning but not as much when it comes to presenting and i feel as if this is what i want to prioritise the weekend and the rest of the working on. Besides from have kahoot and power point, it is a good idea to have support websites and tools as a back up just in case these are not as effective with the topic that i am trying to teach.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to look up some more presentation type of apps and websites to have a range of resources that contribute to my lessons which can take off a workload when it comes to the planning and organisation.

  •

  • Video links with explanation:

week 8

  • Photoshoot progress.. Planned a time and date to do some practice photoshoots to get the right angles and scenery. Based off of the results from that we can then plan and decide what we will wear to fit the appropriate aesthetic for our specific pathway which is teaching in my case. This will add to my website and my portfolio to show the progress of my journey as an aspiring teacher.

  • I have had a meeting with my teacher and my peer when it comes to what we are going to teach in the upcoming month and made a plan of what each of us are going to do to make a group lesson plan, in terms of resources, learning objectives based of what the GCSE students are learning for their exams

  • Group discussions with my band on what we need to rehearse for upcoming performance that go towards my skill development and how I can incorporate it to the teaching aspects of things via Organisation, Confidence, Teamwork etc...

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • A short overview of the resources that I have gained over the weekend to contribute to layout and progress of the lesson for the upcoming month.

  • A recording of my rehearsal to show the progress that we have made based off of the communication from previous rehearsals

  • A more detailed document of the things that need to be achieved for the next couple of weeks.

  • what works:

  • Confidence - During this week i took some time to work on my skills outside the teacher route and more as a session musician. I felt as if this was effective in its own way as it helped work on developing my confidence to sing as the lead singer and also show this confidence through the stage presence that i used.

  •

  • Communication- Throughout the rehearsal sessions that i had with my band i was able to discuss the parts that i liked and the things that we needed to work on to get better as a group. On the other hand whilst dealing with the photoshoot side of things i was able to clearly let the photographers know what type of shots i wanted taken and how it will integrate with what i am trying to present as a teacher. I felt as if since is going to act a portfolio, i will need some thing to a specific standard which sets a good impression to the social media side of things

  • Discipline- Throughout these weeks i have been consistently following the route of constant re-evaluation to allow the best possible progress during the weeks i have gone through. I believe i have been developing this routine mindset as previously spoken about in the previous weeks. Through these factors i believe that discipline has played a big part of keeping myself focused even on the days where i may not feel like doing any work to progress myself as a teacher

  • What doesn't work:

  • Enthusiasm - Throughout these weeks i have noticed that when it comes to my approach of teaching, i have lost the enthusiasm to teach and sound excited to teach a specific lesson. As previously spoken about, if i do not seem energised and excited to teach the lesson then the same effect will be passed onto the students that i am teaching.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to work on my approach towards a lesson in terms of how i act and how i can make it seem as if the topic i am going to teach is really fun to get into. I can working on this by getting myself into that mood beforehand to get myself prepared or i can add things into my lesson plan to keep the enthusiasm up.

  •

  • This video is about how to sound more enthusiastic by the way i articulate myself and also with the way i pronounce

  • certain words. What i understood from that video is that there will be times where i wont be as excited to teach a lesson but regardless of the matter i can still sound like i am in order to boost the classrooms morale.

  • This is a website that showed me the importance of enthusiasm and how it benefits the students. Along the way it then gave a video with a course to follow and a quiz to finish in terms of what you can do as the teacher to be more energised in the classroom

 WEEK 9

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Run through of plan for demo lesson later on in the week with peers and teachers

  • 40 min demo lesson with level 2 students to get feedback for improvements and to see what does and doesn't work

  • Practice shots with photographers for a quick overview of what angles work to show the best quality for my website

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • An analysis of the lesson via video to and then do a SWAT to show what went well and what Improvements need to be made

Q3 – Is there anything you need to present in next week's meeting?

  • Ideas and resources that can be used towards developing how we present a lesson.

  • what works:

  • Teamwork - Throughout this lesson it was conjoint with one of my peers, now surprising without any sort of pre-planned practice, we  were able to go off of each others teaching styles and deliver an overall successful lesson. Over the duration of the lesson there were times where i would be struggling with how i was teaching and they jumped in to help me deliver the topic properly and vice versa.

  •

  • Critical thinking- Whilst going through this lesson there were points where some of the students would be ahead of some of the other students and because of this i had to think on spot where i could take the lesson in order to push some of the weaker students to answer some more of the questions to bring th group back to a balance. Now, in my case i did this by specific picking those students to answer those questions first whilst providing the necessary assistance if need be.

  • Leadership- There was moments during the lesson when i would take charge of the direction of the lesson by asking certain questions, making sure that everyone was up to speed with the work said and also providing guidance to anyone that needed it. Even in some of the parts that my partner was teaching, i was able to attend to the weak sides of the lesson plan and covered it up by going over other relevant work.

  • What doesn't work:

  • Organisation - On my part i can say that the lesson itself was not as good as pictured it to be, there were times where i knew that it was not going to work out, however i still followed through with it till the end. The reason for the lesson not going to plan is because it was rushed without any time to go over and review how the lesson would go. If i took some time aside to work on the lesson i feel as if it would have been a bit more useful towards the students as a lot of the content that was covered, they already had a general grasp of it.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to work on making sure i keep following the normal routine that i have been working on throughout these weeks. I also need to work on my presentation skills and how i actually speak because there are times where what i think i am saying and what i am actually am saying is 2 different things

  •

  •

  • This video is not specifically about my presentation skills but how to change the classroom from a teacher-centred approach to a student-centred approach allowing the teacher to barely having to say anything and allowing the students to teach other, which is a continuation of a video i looked over a few weeks ago when learning about effectively teaching a classroom. I overall believe i needed a reminder in the different options that i have available to me in order to teach a classroom full of students

  •

  • This is a website that helps me with my public speaking skills which is something i never got into during these past weeks. The overall overview of the website is about different tips that i need to keep in consideration. One of the tips that spoke out to me was using jokes, stories and scenarios to keep not only myself more engage d in the lesson but also the students.

Week 10

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • I have reviewed the video that was taken during my demo lesson and broke it down in terms of the good and bad points

  • Talked to my teacher about what they thought my lesson went and made a plan of improvements. 0

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • A improved lesson plan based on the feedback I received

  • Using the resources that I have researched in my future demo lessons

  • what works:

  • Self evaluation - One thing that i can appreciate about myself is the factor of me being able to put my pride aside and realise that as much as the lesson ended decently, the reviews were average and could use some work on my part. Due to these reviews i have started looking at the skills that i have been considerably stronger with to the side as of right now and focus on the weaker ones.

  •

  • What doesn't work:

  • Adaptability - After last weeks lesson i took a good amount of things into consideration in terms of what the next steps are for me and how i am going to achieve it. In this case i realised that as of right now the biggest obstacle to get over in adaptability. Knowing that i have the resources needed, the foundations set for me to give a successful lesson but adjusting to all of this new information brought to me is becoming a bit slower than i expected

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to research different ways to change my teaching style as i feel as if i stick to one thing which isn't effective to the extent that i would like. Overall this improves adaptability and allows full access to all the information and resources that i have found.

  •

  • This video is about the top 10 different teaching styles that can be used to deliver a good lesson. In myopinion, my personal favourite has to be role play method as you act out the scenario to grasp a deeper understanding of the topic.

  •

  • This is a article that i have been looking over this week and it primarily talks about a study that was taken around a range of schools on how their teachers worked on their adaptability and it said that the teachers were consistently changing their styles.

Week 11

  • Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • I have had a meeting with my teachers and my peers and also with the schools we are going to teach at to get more information on what topics those schools need to primarily work on for their GCSE's.

  • Discussed teaching dates, what groups we are going to teach and how we should carry ourselves as individuals.

  •

  • Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • More research on Unit 1 for BTEC music so that I can improve the lesson plan that I have started on.

  • Discuss with peers on "The Stage" lesson plan that we are working on as a collective

  • what works:

  • Organisation - during this weeks meeting i was able to start organising some form of a deadline to when this new lesson plan would get done and what content is needed to be added for it to be considered a successful lesson. Based on this i have been able to continue with the original plan that i had set. So far when it comes to organisation i have been able to set what job roles i will go into detail about and their roles play a big part of "The Stage".

  •

  • Multitasking - Whilst jotting down ideas and i have also been looking for what resources i will use for these lessons and make a decision as to how i will teach the lesson.

I personally believe i have come to the stage where i do not feel as if i should put what isn't working anymore but just follow it through with what needs developing to improve, as i have to a stage where i am in confident in the level of skill that i have achieved so far throughout all the skills that i have been practicing. At this point in time i feel as if its more about putting these skills into action and getting more experience in the field.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  • To continue development i need to work on the teaching strategy that i am going to focus on for the GCSE students and then after that is decide then i will need to create a start to putting the learning objectives to what i want the students to achieve during the lesson.

  •

  • Video links with explanation:

  • This video is just an overview of the unit 1 for GCSE music. This allows me to get an insight of where to level certain questions that i want to add into my lesson depending on the ability of the student. Prioritising the harder questions but being able to break it down so that it is easier to process is the goal that i am trying to achieve for my students.

  • This is a past paper which i can use as reference for the lesson plan that i am in the process of making. Being able to see how the examiners were able to word their question allows me to tweak the questions differently in order for it to be simplified.

Week 12

This is a great place to add a tagline.

Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • Based off of what was gained last week , I have started developing my lesson plan based off of the Unit 1 past paper which is allowing to create target specific questions

  • I have continued looking for what resources that I will use I have made the decision not have lesson so technology based but with flash cards, potential posters, and some pen and paper

Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • I need to now create structure in terms of the time slots I want to integrate these activities to. Based off of this will allow me to then create a starter, main and a ending activity with a summary at the end

  • what works:

  • Organisation - During this week i have been focusing on just reviewing the past papers and how i can start using "The Stage" lesson plan draft to make it more clear. I feel as if at this point i have continued to create a general foundation for me to now integrate ways in terms of how to make the draft better.

  • Communication- Throughout this week there has been a good amount of discussion with my peers in terms of the direction we are taking the lesson plan in and so we have had multiple meetings talking about the next steps that we are going to take

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to have set activities for my work and then back test them to make sure they fit in with the criteria of unit 1 music gcse. After that is complete, i will then have to start working on setting up demo lessons to make sure that i know what i am talking about and to see where the issues in my lesson are so that i can fix them.

  •

  • Video links with explanation:

  •

  • This video is about how to structure out my lessons so that they are straight forward and effective. I believe that this is going to contribute to the success of the lesson as a proper lesson plan make things easier on the workload if it is done properly.

  •

  • Website links with explanation:

  •

  • For this week i decided to look of some lesson plan drafts that i can use as a template to be able to understand what i am going to say, show and do in the upcoming lesson.

Week 13

  • Q1 – What progress have you made towards your job role this week?

  • During this week I was able to create structure with the ideas that I have had from the previous weeks and put them into time slots and then I have also set aside how many physical resources I would need for a successful session

  • I have set in the ideas I want to get done through the lesson and also had a review section set for improvement purposes

  • Q2 – What needs to be done for your job role by next week's sessions?

  • I need to finalise the activities and the overall lesson with the reviews and then go over it with my teachers and peers to for them to assess the level of lesson in order for me to see if its worthy for me to present for the secondary students.

  • what works:

  • Patience - I have used a lot of my time to develop my skills up to this point to where i feel as though the effort and time that was put in was worth it. At the start of the blog i never realised how far i would come as an individual aspiring to become a teacher but also as a musician, being able to consistently evaluate how i am and work towards a goal which i have achieved i feel as if it has overall worked on my patience skill.

  • What I can do to continue development:

  •

  • To continue development i need to review and change any issues that occur with the lesson plan and then plan out to have multiple demo sessions with some of students and my teacher to make sure that it is solid for classroom

  • With these practice sessions it will allow me to develop my confidence in my ability to the point where i wont get nervous in that type of classroom session
